as im on my 3rd 180,with my other two mk1s when stopping for petrol, when taking the petrol cap off i would get a whooshing sound, air release,i dont get this with my mk2, petrol consumptions not the best,is there anyway of checking the tank, for leaks,(apart from a match)have smelt petrol at the passengers rear door, the tank is rusty as hell right enough.it doesnt seem to presurise at all.

Could be the filler pipe Andy, with there usually not being the arch liner there to protect it, it gets battered with all the ***** of the day. Easy to remove and check, the there bolts around the filler pipe behind the flap then with pliers/mole grips squeeze the clip that secures it to the rubber part and pull it out.

You can fit the liner from any bubble 400, or an MB6 Civic, or an early zs, I'm not sure when exactly it was deleted on the zs.
