Death rattle

Another warranty recall was a fix for the death rattle, although not for the inlet manifold. On the KV6 it was caused by the "O" ring on the oil strainer pickup, which sucked air when the engine was cold because the wrong one was fitted from new. This made the tappets rattle till engine was warm , then gradually died away. Not worth the effort to repair as all the front exhaust has to be removed to drop the sump, affected both 2.0ltr & 2.5 models up to certain engine numbers.

Wonder if that is what I get when starting engine from really cold. It's like a click click click sound but it goes away after about 30 seconds.

Would be interesting to know of these engine numbers if anyone can find out? I think the o-ring is NLA anyway.

If you look at the last 6 figures of the engine number, anything lower than 168506 will be affected.

Screw FS188255E
Sump to carrier sealant GGC 108

Tme allowed for repair 1hr 50mins so not a quick job, parts less than a fiver.

So is mine, it starts with a 2, it looks like early engines might be more affected than later ones
