I'd say more dogs than good to be honest out there in general unless 1 mature owner types - until you look at the cars kept by enthusiasts - members here for example.

In general the good ones tend to be kept and if sold stay within the known club circles. Bad ones are those which have fallen into the wrong hands and let go or indeed have been owned by people who treat them as any other car and not an enthusiast. To most they won't be seen as a car worth spending time and money on due to their very low residual values.

Trouble is the newest ones are 10 years old now and the oldest can be 15 odd.

Think most of them still hold there own when you look at the other cars out there.

I think that is something that needs to be considered, none of our cars are new, or even nearly new anymore...

those of us that live in damp/salty areas get more rot to deal with due to the environment - mine shows the onset of quite a lot of corrosion, and so we undersealed the car last year... but anything exposed for me gets marked....

I think the 180's might be more likely to be 'abused' than the derv's or 1.8's just by the nature of those that might pick them up for cheap motoring (and also not care about the vehicle)

Totally agree but you can take steps to prevent it from rotting away i wax oil all inside doors every 5 years i also fully clean the underside and wax oil every 5 years every six months i take all wheels off and grease all rubbers joints and really anything that moves or will corrode also every time i wash it i clean all arches fully ( bit ocd on it really but i want it to last as in time they will go up in price i remember laughing at montego meastro and metro now look at some of the prices they are fetching so time will tell definitely a future classic in my eyes

I really like the 1800 because having 3 BRMs a lot of parts are the same and me being slow on the up take that means they are similar to repair! Lately I have seen one low miles 1.8 that looks very tidy and I have to say I am tempted to PX ! I am just not sure about having a mk2 as all the mk2 Z's I know seem to have a poor build quality compared to the mk1s!
I am in 2 minds...

As far as build quality between the 2 goes i am undecided, unless i have a really really bad friday backshift mk1

Mine is a 79k 2002 180, it's been well looked after. But still needed work, and still needs a bit of welding on the floor. And some general wear and tear stuff doing.

Frankly I am not surprised that everyday use Zs's are now deteriorating.

When I bought my ZS 120 (new old stock) I looked underneath and was horrified at the reduction in thickness of underseal compared to my previous Rover R8.
I'd also heard that was injection of body panels was a bit haphazard in the MGR era when cost cutting was taking place?
That's why I injected Waxoyl in doors etc and covered the underneath before use.

My car (wednesday afternoon built!) is keeping good, but I don't use it in winter and have only covered 400 miles so far this year
