"The company added that its Longbridge-based engineering/R&D facility continues to work on future MG products, which "are being specifically developed for the UK & Western European markets"
This is why - They aren't gonna sell jack with just 1 car on the market, which less face it, doesn't appeal to everyone anyway. Close production till 2010 rather than wasting money on cars that won't sell and then release with a full lineup.
OR
MG is dead in the UK and only kept alive by people like us!
Tis a shame...would have been nice to have a RWD ZS

They've done it all wrong in my opinion. Theres probably in's and out's that we dont know about but as soon as SAIC took over they should of re-opened longbridge in 05/06 and carried on producing the full range as it was while they speant time developing new models. Yea ok they probably wouldnt sell that many but it would of kept some money rolling in and kept alot of people in work. Probably would of been bringing in alot more money than they are now. Theres been to long of a gap now.

It was only a token gesture keeping it open while they tried the LE500 to wet peoples appetites. I am surprised it lasted this long. In time everything will be done in the east including the R&D.

I am not remotely interested in what SAIC produces anymore unfortunately, I was quite angry after a test drive with an LE500, how about that for an emotion after test driving a new car!

Prolonging the inevitable? I think so!
Lets face it, MG-Rover died quite a long time ago, let's let it rest peacefully, and carry on enjoying cheap motoring until we are unable to get bits anymore... Then scrap them in for the latest Japanese motor!
