What car to buy
It's time to get rid of the fiesta st, 56 plate, full leather with heated seats and plenty of other extras. Just rubbish on fuel and my wife is driving nearly 50 miles a day.
If you had a max of 5 grand to spend and were wanting hatchback that is extremely good on fuel what would you go for? Ideally 5 door but could be 3 door. Doesn't need to be quick but no doubt I'll be forced to use when seeing family down south so it shouldnt be too slow either.
Suggestions are welcome!

I'll take a look at the vrs, unfortunately she isn't a lover of the zs. How reliable are zr's?

Not a car most would think of or like but my Vectra Elite does the job, 530 miles to a tank, 150 bhp, 6 speed box and loaded with gizmos and heated leather. The V6 3 ltr diesels are also good on fuel and with plenty of grunt. Depends on what you really want from the car?

She is wanting something small, think anything from a fiesta to a focus size. Been looking at fabias and they are in price range, remap would put them to 170bhp and over 250 torque. Genuine reviews seem to say people see 65 mpg or more on long runs. Just making sure I have considered every option.

I would def be looking at the diesel side with that daily mileage and budget.
though if you can scrape to a newer petrol turbo, you would probably see similar economy (pending road types), but maybe not quite the same performance.
ZR engine wise is as reliable as the ZS, but they are not as accomplished to drive, probably would feel like a big step down after the ST.
