I have been looking at MG TF's lately.
But I have two kids and a wife, so not practical

We keep wondering about getting one that needs a bit of TLC as a toy.

MX5 has several disadvantages including it being Japanese, it looks like a 1970's spitfire or midget and the engine is at the wrong end, you can't really compare the 2.

well in my opinion id rather have a first shape mx5 cuz of all the tuning parts available with them, the tf is comparitavly limited in to what you can do. the mx5s engine is a good workhorse and the only main problem i can think of off hand is the drain tubes block up n can flood the footwell if gone unoticed and shorts the ecu. so as long as thereclear no real problems, i dont mind the tf's but never been as keen on them n theyre a bit of a ****** to work on in the enginebay a lot of reaching down n more n more scarcity of parts needed

I'd rather have an elan over the mx5 any day... brother in law used to have a mint one, until a transit van re-designed the fibreglass...
he got an elise as a replacement, but sold it after a year as it was not practical....
and back on topic.. dont get a TF.. sick with the zs - if it aint a 180, then upgrade if it is... as before stick with it
