cams
can the cams from the mg zt 190 be fitted in to the zs 180. been told you can do this but you might need the ecu aswell. may be a cheaper alternitave to piper cams but with similar gains???

Cams and ECU are required, plus some other stuff too IIRC!

I think the 180 ECU should be able to handle the 190 cams,it can cope with Pipers afterall.(may need a tweak on the map).
Should be easier to install than the piper aswell as they are in a set position for fitting,aftermarket ones generally are not

also just read on xpf that the zt uses a larger throttle body than the zs. anybody heard this? i thought they were the same? that could be a gain in hp if thats true. would zt 190cams give as much gain as piper 270 cams?

TB's should be the same afaik, the 160 has a smaller one I do believe. I think the inlet cams are the only difference along with the timing.

who says the 190 has different cams .
I have the orginal mgr release brochure and it listed engine spec differences as better induction ,free'er flowing manifolds and exhaust and different map in the ecu .The zt only made 187 bhp ,a zs makes that with just induction and exhaust so what were the zt cams doing if it had different ones ........absolutely squat diddly is what,lol .
Throttle bodies are exactly the same.

SO why is their different timing tools for the 2.5 180 and 2.5 190?

I think the theory is that with the ZT being a bigger car the timing was different to give better torque.
Something I'm having checked when my timing belt is replaced, as I think my timing is slightly out - as last rolling road day KevG got more power than me with almost identical mods. Apparently the timing margin for error on the KV6 was 10% either way, so that could potentially be causing the drop

The cams might not be 'racing cams' as such with bigger lift and longer duration, but with possibly a shorter overlap to help with low - rpm power?

180 and T16 tubby use a 56mm throttle body, 160 uses a 52mm, 1.4 uses a 48mm.
