smash rear window

my rear screen isn't working due to a couple of breakages in the elements. so im wondering would the best idea be to smash it and claim on the insurance along with my windscreen. the windscreen has a large chip in the middle of the drivers field of vision so needs replacing anyway.

has anybody done this before, is this viable?

if you go into halfords or maplins you can get conductive paint, just paint it on the broken areas an hey presto fully working rer demistor. just use masking tape to get a neat finish

it might backfire on you aswell. Not sure how hard ZS rear screens are to get hold of but i know recently vandals smashed a rear screen on a Rover 75, a member of the 75-ZT owners club and the insurance company wrote his car off because they couldn't get a rear screen anywhere.

ouch, omg that is bad. ill have to rethink, id rather have the car than not lol. im pretty sure i could source a rover 400 rear window if need be. ill try fix it, then seek a spare window and get them swapped if necessary.

Front and rear screens are available from all the major glass people, as for the insurance idea, all depends on your excess, and if your willing to lie to them what happened to the windows!
Claiming a front window is easy as the chip or crack will need replaced anyway, so you will need to make the chip/crack grow.....wink, wink.

ive already had the autoglass guy round who said the chip cant be repaired and asked me if i wanted to get the new screen done for my excess. if i cant get the screen working ill smash it, no worries.

i have to pay the excess for the front anyway
