As promised, here's a we peek at the functionality of the tablet install

It is wired in to the lighter socket which is relocated behind the console. My head unit is in the glove box but I could have installed it instead of the ashtray or below the ashtray.

I have to say, getting in the car and having this there makes it feel like a new car again. At the end of the day, we sit in the car and look out the window or at the console so it freshens it up a treat. Plus I now have more options that standard

It's a Nexus 7 (1st gen). Cheap, cheerful smooth and has all the features I needed for the build without blowing a lot of money!

Whole project cost under £200 including the tablet.

I would defo be able to do it quicker next time. Changes? I would sand some of the clip on case down to make it easier to remove (although I personally have no plan to) and I would reinforce everything a bit more so I didn't have to worry about it so much while rebuilding it.

I would also do a variant that includes the stereo by sacrificing the ashtray (similar to my PC build one).

If I am honest, I can't actually believe how happy I am with the outcome of it, especially aesthetically! Plus, compared to the carPC booting up every time, it's instant on with the ignition so I am listening to tunes before I'm off the drive so definitely much safer!

The hardest/most time consuming task was getting the front end to look as it does. It is completely custom, nobody has the same front end as me in any car and I'm quite proud of that.

Mate - I'd commission you to do one for me if I wasn't so chuffed with my black oak and system as it stands.
