How did you go about it ?

I cleaned them up with a wire brush in the angle grinder, then treated them with a product called POR 15, I've never used it before, but people reckon it's the dogs danglies, we shall see.

Link to product ?

I was thinking the same in the cleaning aspect, than etch primer and some form of spray on underseal or stone chip.

Tell you what though, my 1997 416 never rotted like this... only the rear arches, same with the 420, just the rear arches, earlier cars are obviously better built with regard to rust treatment imo.

When you do it there are a couple of bungs in the bottom of the rail that the jacking point is welded to, they lever out, I'll guarantee that a load of water will drip out, which may explain the rust, I left the bungs out and sprayed a load of wax inside the box section.

Right, spent a few hours on the car today.

First i fitted the 420 abs pump i got on ebay, i have not bleed the system yet so the pedal travel is a little on the long side at the minute, but it still stops ok, thats one of the next things to do.

Another engine bay pic

This results in no more ABS light on the dash

Also fitted the seats, so no more SRS light on the dash either 8) We are now warning light free.

Next i needed to address the lack of PAS.

So i dug deep and found the 420s PAS pump, gave it a slight clean and fitted it, i now have fully functioning PAS

Moved it up the drive again to fit the seats

Couldnt resist a quick run up and down the street

And one of the last things i need to sort is some ducting and an air filter to go in the NSF wheel arch, as currently, the turbo is somewhat exposed.

Currently thats is, i also removed the blanking plate and fitted a standard recirc valve.

Real progress now
