The turbo diesel engine feels stronger when on boost but only because off boost they are flat. The v6 has power right through the rev range so it gives a constant increase in speed without the punch felt when the turbo spools up.
Having had to let go of my 180 and use my sensible car, well Freelander all the time I chose sell the L series powered version I had and got the V6 version instead (same engine as the 180) simply because the engine is so flexible. You can tune the turbo diesel to give good torque but with a 1500 rpm rev range they simply aren't flexible enough for me. The V6 sounds miles better too!
