I know, hence not been pushing: ) we've been setting up the new unit and are currently painting a huge classic american truck, otherwise I would have got bits off and scrapped the shell...

Morning all,
So Drew and I have had a few chats offline, and unfortunately we have a hit a small problem - we need something to recover the car itself, as I cannot legally put the wheel on the road with no tax or MOT.
Does any-one localish to Silverstone have anything to help get it away from the unit?
The good news is that the person who contacted me has the been speaking to the unit owner, there is no immediate rush to get the car moved now, and given it is Silverstone F1, heading there this weekend is a no-no anyway!
He's also seeing if he can source trailer/towcar etc as his car is in bits in the workshop itself so he'll need it later himself...

the problem is after it has been sat for more than 18months unmoving, I expect there will be things need to be done before it would pass - and if it fails then were doubly not allowed to move it on the road, so we are in the same boat as we were right now...
But it is an option of course!

Are you not allowed to drive home after the MOT as well (might be an issue is 400 miles lol) even if you fail? the "to or from an MOT repair"

I had thought they'd changed the rules in result of a failure - because that deems the vehicle not to be roadworthy; but I might have made that up....
Ah right it is a slightly vague wording on the DVLA site - if it fails and is deemed to be un-roadworthy, you are not allowed to take it on the road as it must comply with the various rules.. (vehicle condition rule 89 and a few others)
I guess it depends on whether we can get the car to move as to whether either is actually possible! (I'm not able to head up this weekend either, so it'll have to be next weekend before I can head up to see it, and that's a 300mile round trip for me as well :s)
Any-one used shiply or other transport companies? (might just be simpler if more expensive to do it this way)
It's a pity I can't use my AA cover for a car with no tax/MOT to be recovered as that would be way too easy!

I've used Shipley before when my car got stuck with no brakes up at my parents and needed to be 150miles away.
Was roughly £120 for it delivered to my door.
I'd use it again tbh

So I've just been given notice that the car has to be re-located this weekend (farmer is re-renting then workshop as of Tuesday) - given that I've just had some really bad news about my dad's cancer this isn't what I needed.
I've managed to buy myself a week though the guy who has got the keys though for £20. After that hopefully getting the last details sorted to get it moved on the 5th... either to another temp home, or to Drew to try and get an MOT....
As I've taken the day off today I'm going to head up there later today and see what's what with the car, check the bits are there as expected.
