most probally be the inlet manifold, if it is start saving now £££'s and if you think your car goes well at the moment, wait untill you put a new inlet on

Thanks for all the replies. Fingers crossed it isn't anything expensive.

Strangely when i got in last night it wasn't doing it just before I turned it off on the drive. Then before I headed back out I put some belt slip on the auxillary belt which was making a bit of noise and it sounded perfect.

Then fired it up this morning and it was rattling again. If the rattles are increasing with revs could it be tappets? Or is that an obvious sign of something else?

Sorry for all the questions, just trying to get all the possible options so me and my brother can start to check over/fix and eliminate them - obviously its hard for you to diagnose without hearing it though.

Will be giving it an oil change Saturday to eliminate it being due to old, bad or low oil.

I am based in Croydon, Surrey.

If you get stuck or need some 'ears' on it I'm based in Aldershot during the week, so about an hour or so from you, junction 4 of the M3. Your more than welcome to come to my works during the day whilst there is daylight to check it out.

Much appreciated, i'll try and do some investigating with my brother and if some of the cheaper tings and a service don't do the trick I may well take you up on that.
