I think the real trick for MG will be to get hold of a decent diesel engine, throw it in and go after fleet sales.

Patriotic fleet managers may go for it, provided there is a decent business case in terms of cost in running a fleet. If they could tap into a few Forces up and down the Nation, they'd do well too.

If they rely purely on private buyers - they'll never get away from the silver/Grey crowd and competing against Kia,Proton and Hyundai for the pensioner's money. Sensible, younger private buyers of brand new cars will tend to go for marques with a proven record in retained value.

Skoda only managed to move on because they were bought by VW and have a huge parts bin to tap into. MG don't have that backing.

the diesel engine that is coming will be pretty good....

it will be an even more modern version of the G-series that was already 160bhp out the box in low tune mode....

a lot more info over on .org, if you are able towade through the various squabbles on the subject!

mattie007 is just really nicemattie007 is just really nicemattie007 is just really nicemattie007 is just really nicemattie007 is just really nice
Is there any difference now to when B*W or Honda owned MG?
The only difference I can see is that they will have billions behind them in the form of SAIC.
I admit it looked like the Chinese wanted MGR to fail to get it on the cheap, but on the other hand they were the only interested party.

As long as it is built here, its a start.

And if they could have picked up the Ford, Lotus, Opel etc brand for the same price do you think they would have been interested in MG?
To me the headquarters of MG is now in China, hence its Chinese - any profit goes to China, if they need to contract their operations (assuming someday prior to that they actually expand...)in the future they''ll soon be going back to China and won't give a monkeys about UK

Face it, its a Roewe 1800 Sport with MG badges tacked on, where's all the changes to the UK market model, is the one at MPH seriously it? Unless you are very anoraky you'd never notice.
