the EGR can sometimes stick open and then you loose boost, so blanking the EGR off then you get full boost and also it dont crud up your inlet pipes with black oily soot

if you feel weight of diesel engine components compared to petrol youd see why they take so long to heat up, feel a diesel piston and a petrol piston.
quite a lot of the german marques have a seperate diesel burner just for the heaters so you get instant heat, also i think some cars have an electric element now as well but i may be wrong on that.

the EGR is only activated when you are on constant throttle on the L-series, as soon as you accelerate or decerlate it is disabled.... imo it made such negligable difference i just wear a hat, set the blower on cold, and when the water gets to around 50c turn it to hot....

works for me

careful doing that, dont want to get it nicked from off your drive as insurance wont pay out if you do

not that i live in a bad area, but my keys are never in the ignition unless i am in the vicinity of the car, either in it or under it!
