It is pretty random yes, it's not one of the known areas susceptible to rust.

My boot has remained dry through all the rain we have had over the last six months so would assume the rust damage is not to bad?.

Nice diesel ZS you have there. Very unique.
Shame about the little rust spot however what I would say to any potential buyer is at least its been mentioned and is out in the open. It is very very difficult to find an MG these days completely problem or blemish free so if you can find one with an issue as minor as this you are doing well. A quick trip to a body shop and its sorted... could even use it as an excuse to get the bumper color matched at the same time and then as far as I can see the car would be perfect.

Good luck with the sale.

It doesn't look as if it has gone under the screen seal, I think if you stripped it back to bare metal to clean up any hidden damage, then did a localised paint repair it would be pretty invisible, if required a decent screen fitter could remove the rear screen, and rebond it afterwards.
