And that moment when you hear something go "snap" right when you think you've done the trickiest part of the job....

the little plastic nipple on the end of the rad end of the bleed pipe to the header tank broke off.... I'm not the first to have broken this I'm sure, and I won't be the last, but as it all comes in one part by the look of it, and it is NLA I've got to get a little creative with the fix....

ah well I knew something would make the job even more irritating than the lack of space already makes it! lol

Aaaaaaaaand......

I need a new fuel tank... filled it to the brim and it started to leak onto the forecourt..... drove home, stuck a bin bag under it with some shredded paper and it seems to have stopped with the tank "full" looking at the gauge now and the much slower drip rate...

So I suspect the filler part has rusted through.....

Guess I need to now empty the tank before tackling this next job that I can't really ignore!

But the good news is that the coolant system seems to be working now as it should be, found a piece of rubber just the right internal diameter in the shed from a previous purchase that was un-used....

Yeah, the filler tube on mk2s are prone to rust after project drive deleted the plastic shield.

I don't think it is just the filler pipe, as it was leaking still after 40 miles travelled to the folks - and then again in the morning....

so a quick trip to halfrauds to get a drill pump, a 20L jerry can + spout... next door to homebase for some 8mm clear tubing & some off-cuts of hosepipe.... + gaffer tape as 8mm-hosepipes doesn't make a tight fit LMAO, and I have no more dripping fuel tank for the moment....

Once I've used some more fuel I'll get the tank replaced and/or dropped and checked over - Phil's had a couple go on the seams recently, so I'm thinking it is probably gone there...

But it looks like according to rimmer bros the tank is NLA... so I guess I'm going to have to try to source a second hand one some-place else!

So bit of an update..... As per the thread on the fuel tanks I found mine to be some-what crusty on removal this afternoon.... (hopefully the pic shows as I'm using google)

I had to cut the breather off - just could not get to the fuel clip as the orientation was to the top of the tank, I was underneath it - and of course the petrol one is different.

So I'm just going to order a new one from Rimmerbros

For any-one curious about the tank straps, the LH is fractionally longer than the RH, given that there is a huge amount of thread on the bolts I'm sure you can use either one on either side - so I'm going to also order a pair of them as the eyes at the end where they fit over the bolts are as crusty as the nuts that are welded on either side on my current ones.

I'm not expecting there to be any issues, but I'll report back when I come to refit it all when the parts arrive... (and if not I've still got the originals labelled up I can refit once the nuts are removed....
