I'd agree with that James, but in this instance someone was asking about changing pads, his discs were fine.

Contentious one this, chopping coils to lower your car, yay, or nay, I'll be 100% honest in saying that I've done it before without any ill effects.

I've been dead against this, seen a couple of nasty accidents from chopped springs in the past. A lot of it is how it's done, people generally just lop off coils and don't take into consideration any modification to the spring to allow it to mount properly.
Saying that the old black Avo's for the ZR were so short you had to cable tie them in as they flopped out of the cups at full travel...so are those manufactured springs safer than chopped?

Although I have seen it done it is something I wouldn't be happy with unless it was to trial something but in order to get proper ones made later. The spring seat should be ground flat and if done correctly the last coil is tighter so you get a relatively flat surface to purchase against. Same with any compression spring in any given situation, die springs and valve springs. With a chopped off coil there is a tendancy for the spring to 'box' and will try and find the quickest escape route.
