The whole project is a lot of work for 30bhp over a lightly modded 180.

Other than VAG, is there no other way of getting 270+ out of one of the rover/mg engine?

I'm starting off at low figures as I want to keep the cost reasonable but even at 230 it will walk all over a v6 I think. At a latter date when toy funds allow the internals can be changed and then "to infinity and beyond" lol. I still need funds for interior mods and a full respray even though I will spray it myself.

My mate Victor was running 283bhp on his T16 maestro, ok, he did have forged internals, bored out to 2.2, bespoke turbo and emerald managment.

It was running nearer to 300 bhp but was undrivable.

His car was the one the Steve Berry drove on topgear - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vYB0TOVMjiU

but this was filmed long before he did most of the mods.

Yep, more boost, forged pistons, Siemens 660cc injectors, dta management, and your on your way

bhp is only half the story, your forgetting the extra 50-60 lbft of torque this engine will bring, and its this that will make the car so effortlessly fast.
It might have only 230 bhp but that torque will mean it will accelerate as quick in 4th as a modded nasp zs does in 3rd.

Something else worth doing is bracing the turbo mounting flange to the manifold flange, it lessens the risk of cracked welds.

Decent pistons like Arias or JE probably come in around 1k, not sure on prices for dta s60, s/h injectors come up pretty often, and mapping time.
