I thought having it that low would be a bad idea, due to possible water scoopage purposes...
I use the same as Mick and use the fog light aperture (never use the bloody things anyway) and get the ram affect by doing this. I just take it easy in heavy rain so I don't suck water up

I wouldnt suck water in to the filter directly as it isnt enclosed induction kit. for an enclosed filter that sucks its air through the CAF it wouldnt be a good idea, but mine been just a CAF it wouldnt be sucking air, it wouldnt be relying on air been sucked in, more like the air been forced in to the inner wing area. i was thinking of leaving the end a couple of inches away from the open cone.

Ahh I see what you mean 
Sounds good, although I'd still use the foglight aperture, mainly because it's the perfect size and is already there for you

when Matt had his RR day a month back, there was a 160 ZR with a slightly dodgy intake setup that lost 15bhp - slight bit of fettling and it was back up to 160 again.
I am trying to decide where to move my cone to... diesels really really really hate water lol

but i occsionally use mine. your forgetting i live very close to the twisty roads of the new forest!!!..... they come in very hand at night when your out on a spirited drive!

I've never ever found a use for foglights, seriously. Even when it's mentally foggy, they do sod all.
Plus you'll still have one left

In the time mine has been located to the foglight aperture it has never been an issue, filter has been clean as a whistle and no water ingress. The mesh I use stops water getting in, granted it would be better if open but not worth the grief it could cause. What it needs is a switchable gate, meshed/open to suit weather and driving conditions.  now there's a thought!
