For me it's anything which is old but still standard.

It's likely to be driven by an old foggie who has had it since new and treats it well, instead of someone who has one because it came up cheap and has stuck on bigger wheels and stickers.

Eg. My mums Ford Scorpio.

New shape vectra. Probably the dullest car i've seen. Big square rep box with boring bland interior.

How can you not like the car that spawned the ZS. thats like saying you dont like the standard DB Aston Martin but you like the sporty version! They look almost identical.

The ZS is a totally different car compared to 400 Rover.
Like the Civic compared to Type R........they are just a totally class

No the difference is limited to suspension and brakes in the case of the ZS/45 and a nose job and a bit of colour coding over the 400. The ZS came from the 400 or more precisely a prototype KV6 425. Thought this was about looks not the underpinnings which are only moderately uprated in real terms. Civic/type R, Golf/GTI, Escort/XR3i ya cant say one is boring to look at and the other is not it makes little sense. Rover did a brilliant job with the ZS given the financial restraints but essentially too look at the 400 and ZS are the same.

Hmm look at a mk1,mk2 zs and look at a rover 45,400
Hmm drive a ZS then either of the above

= a big difference inside and out

BTW the bodyshape is copied from a old Honda civic.

Dave

comparing cooking models to the 'hot' models is asking for trouble as that is really what the manufacturers try for is to get the gti etc as the 'halo' model for the range so the normal escort does look dull over the xr3i and same with golf etc i mean there has got to be aesthetic appeal over the normal models . Doesn't mean fowk don't like 400/45 but you park a 400/45 an zs next to each other and see what the comments are, nine time out of ten the 400/45 will be classed as auld mens cars, dull and boring looking and the zs may be called a tarted up rover but i aint heard it called dull yet! i do like the 400.45 myself as yes the basic shell and looks are the same, but it is amazing how much a difference alloys, colour coding etc can make to liven the design up. the new subaru is an extreme version, look at it's cooking models then look at the top of the range sti....still ugly but not near as boring !!
