Finished my V6 belts today

Jus to let a few forum members know i've finnally did the belts on my car this week, got most of it done on monday, and just a few things to finish off on tuesday, then recieved the part i broke today, so its all finished and working perfectly

All doen by myself and never even had an assistant ( would of made it easier tho)

Renewed the primary belt tensioner,idler and waterpump, along with a new drive belt, and of course the 3 new timing belts, (+ a coolant flush and change and of course an oil change with motul 300 10w40 fully synthetic and new genuine filter)

Releaved

Deffo not a job to do with out the special tools

also it appeared the primary belt was one tooth ou when i took it apart?

strange, unless the belt stretches over time and it moves - not really got a clue why it was timed up wrong.

Nice one Andy, you must feel pretty good after that. As said, you could make a fair bit of money doing members cars. I wish I had held off getting mines done now.

The garage told me one of my belts was off by two teeth.

There is a way to change a cam belt without special tools that I've been told about...

Carefully cut the belt along its length, so that the belt is half the width. Now slide the new belt on alongside the old one and then cut the remains of the old belt off. Finally slide the new belt fully on to the pulley.

Thats an old ford trick... however it sounds dodgy!! - and what you do if the belt currently on the car is a tooth out?

My belts need doing at some point soon as well... I either need the specialist tools or someone to change the belts for me who knows what they are doing without spending huge amounts of money!!
