0-60 Times

I have often wondered how 0-60 times are different or so close on cars that seem to have so much more power...

ZS for example Standard 180 is 7.3s but with only 177BHP

Vectra VXR 255BHP but 0-6 is still only 6.5s, I would assume they would be so much furthar apart...

Can anyone explain why this is not the case? Would you notice any difference with the near 1sec gap?

Cheers

I imagine it is simply because the vectra weighs so much more, but 1 second is still along time in terms of speed.

Phate is an unknown quantity at this point
Yeah it's the weight, the ZS180 weighs sod all compared to a lot of Saloons, especially nowadays, isn't it 1245kg?

My 9-3 weighs 1495kg and has 250bhp and the 0-60 is 6.5s I think. So only a 7th of a second quicker but a considerable amount more power.

power to weight and other things like gearing and traction. Its why I chose the zs over the st.

and with better breathing the zs picks up even better.

so much affects 0-60 times. wheel size, gearing, weight, tyres, etc. power doesnt mean everything either because its bhp@the wheels that counts, depends how much unsprung weight etc. Vetras are very heavy, so power at the wheels wont be as much as you think or bhp per ton, but anyway 7.3 seconds is a bad judge of the zs as most standard cars do it it much less. Evo did a text on the zs in the wet and it did 0-60 in 7.0 seconds. ive done quite a few 0-60 tests on my zs with quaife diff and lighweight wheels and part stripped and have done it in under 6 seconds

vectra vxr has 170bhp per ton, standard zs has 150bhp per ton. a slightly modded zs with a few bits lightened like mine with 195 bhp is 174bhp per ton. add that to much less unsrung weight and smaller tyres gives a better 0-60 time than a vectra.

other bhp per ton comparisons
Ford Focus ST170 170bhp- (143 per ton)
Golf GTI 200 - (150 per ton)
Celica GT4 195- (157 per ton)
Honda Accord Type-R 210bhp - (163 per ton)
Ford Sierra RS Cosworth 205bhp - (169 per ton)
Renaultsport Clio V6 255bhp- (175per ton)

you will likely find a big difference in 0-100 times and more so in 60-100 times where the torque of the vxr will come into play.

my 535d was not quick 0-60, but it was a rocket 3rd gear and upwards and would cruise at 150mph at just 3500rpm, just needed to get the thing going first tho.
