The tester is now with Mick once again sorry for delay in getting it back in circulation my hospital visits over, maybe can now concentrate on the zed and get it back on the road to recovery as well ......

How does the tester work? Can they be tested with a voltage tester?

Yes and No, you cannot test the motor with a meter etc, but you can test the circuit, the tester applies power if it were connected to the car.

To test the motor itself you need a 12v power supply to run the motor and a meter to read ma in line in the circuit. this will tell you the current draw of the motor
