If it were me I'd be getting an ITG, sports cat and a cat back.

Top of my list would be a decent cat-back system. My Duplex system cost nearly £600 so that's most of your money gone in one move. Something like a Janspeed single system should be under £300
Next probably XPower springs. Next on my hit list as they really improve the already fantastic handling without dropping to an unpractical height.
Getting dencent vented disks on the front would probably be a good move too
Or you could just blow the whole lot on new wheels and tyres. You can get the Kei Force 10's in 18" like I have for around that sort of money now. Don't get them with budget tyres though - they always stink.

A catback is definately going to happen . Undecided on which though! I here lots of good things about Janspeed. Are these the ones to go for? Not keen on a duplex as I dont want to mod the bumper.

Xpower you say? - do they improve the handling more than well enough to justify the cost? I though Koni's were the way forward?

£980 will be a squeeze for the ideal mods, but that depends upon what you want from it, performance, looks or sounds? Personally I would uprate the breathing as my first port of call.
Manifolds circa £375
Cat-back +£300
Sports Cat £250 ish
Induction from £160 to £340 depending on spec.
It's easy spending money for someone else!

Janspeed were the official makers of the XPower systems for MG (I think) so they are 2nd to none when it comes to fit. Plus they look and sound fantastic

Yes you wouldn't believe the difference. Reduced body roll, tighter feeling in the corners and to be honest not really that expensive. Made under licence for MG XPower by Eibach, IMO the best spring makers in the business.
There's not really much choice in springs on their own unless you go down the coilover route - which IMO is a bit over the top unless you plan on doing alot of track work
I have the Janspeed manifold and sports cat fitted to my car, and to be frank they didn't make any difference to power at all. Save the cash and spend elsewhere

as a straight up performance upgrade, the installation of a quaife ATB limited slip differential in your PG1 seems to be held in high regard by some. Apparently makes the most of the power the Z already has (I don't have one of these fitted, but am very familiar with wheelspin on damp / wet days - one of these ATB's should sort this out - perhaps someone with more knowledge can enlighten us all)
The down side of this is it'll eat up most of your £980 leaving little left for anything else.

...but if you go by the saying "Power is nothing without control" then i'd say it's a good mod.
