South Lakes Mini's list them at the same price as Rimmers, if they can supply them or not is another matter.

At work we use to use a rad place. They would take off the tops and bottoms and put a new core in.

Price was always cheap for what they did.

Dont know if these ones are the same!!

With the amount being broken its prob cheaper to just get one from those, I got one in garage (Birmingham )
Core vents are quite brittle after age thou but know leaks but guess they all going to be same.
No aftermarket options unless u go bespoke build ££££

Not sure on recore as the top and bottom parts are plastic.

I have squeezed in an alloy Nissan unit but its need work to get it to fit :-(

How much different is the R45 version?

Would a diesel one work?

I think the main difference is in the thickness of the core, in terms of dimensions I expect the R45, and diesel would fit, if they would provide enough cooling capacity is another matter.

The maestro and montego diesels had brass end caps so when I wanted a custom rad for my T16 maestro I had a diesel one recored. Even without rebuilding they have proved to be sufficiant for the T16 tubby.

The 180 rad will be spec'ed to cope with southern european tempretures so I would expect the R45 or diesel ZS rad to be up to the job in the northen half of the UK (but I wont gaurantee this obviously).

That is pretty much my take on the rads as well, the fact that MG decided to fit an uprated item suggests that they had some concerns about coolant temps in certain climates.

pete, you are spot on with "in certain climates". dont forget the 180 went all over europe, UK ambient temps are way down on the likes of summer in italy or southern spain. you should be ok with upto 80% Heat exchange if you can get a diesel one in. In My opinion, i might stress.
