Replicating plastic part

Quick question. I am nearing completion of Matt's new tablet centre console. I would love to save hassle making another one by getting this one duplicated so I can make copies for others to buy.

I know this is possible somehow in bulk but I am looking at an on demand type requirement or 2 at a time. Would also need to be cheap to reproduce them.

I'm not sure if it's possible to do duplication myself and have looked at 3d printing etc but size is possibly an issue.

Anyone in the know so I can consider costs for this?

It's the centre console, like pictured but obviously modified by myself.

Plastic 3d printing would be ideal but that would need an industrial sized printer.

It might be worth investing in one if you had a decent sized market catering for several makes and models.

No cheap alternative, even rapid prototyping will cost you due to the size of the part, most cheaper ones are small component use generally, that is quite large. I used to use the University to model parts, cheap method if you know people.

Your best bet is to buy up those from broken cars and keep say two in stock and then do it on an exchange basis, people will understand.

It wasn't because I couldn't source consoles, was more to save me fabricating every one by hand!

If the modified part is flat and fits inside the current console then you could just get the insert machined to suit and then bond this in place once the aperture has been cut to accept this? I am making assumptions here due to not knowing the final model you have created from the standard template. There is no real cheap fix to this that I can think of. With the console having so many surfaces it is hard to find an easy solution.

I was hoping 3d printing or moulding would be options if cheap

For a mould you would need a mould tool, typically injection moulding and a mass production process, these tools are not cheap. There is vacuum and blow moulding but not suitable for your component. 3D printing is the only solution for low numbers but as you are looking for the whole part then again you are up against it as the program needs a file to print from. Therefore even the part will need to be scanned in 3D to get this file to print from, unless you have the 3D file from MGRover?
