Sudden increase in fuel usage.

Recently (as in the past week)

My car has been using A LOT and I really mean a lot of fuel...is it the cold?

See normally I get 18mpg with mixed driving including a fair bit of hoonage *straightens halo*

But in this weather you simply can't drive like that because you'll slip off the road and die...end of.

When I mean a lot I'm talking about half a tank to 70 miles?

Normally I get 150 out of half a tank...

I haven't hit any kerbs recently so I doubt it's tracking.

My car is misfiring occasionally but I know it's way overdue for a service...

any ideas?

Ta

after a misfire does the ecu not flag out error codes and change settings on air/fuel mixture. When I went for my MOT it failed on emissions but all they did was hook it up to find misfire error codes and then reset it and it passed.

Yes, get it hooked up as you must have a sensor playing up and it is overfuelling which can cause damage if not sorted asap.

Also look to service your car if not buying the other one plugs etc.

VIS balance valve. My economy took a sudden dive recently, plugged it in to the diagnostics machine and it came up with the VIS. BV. Repaired it at home (burned out circuit) and the car feels alive again, kick at 3000rpm etc ! And the economy is vastly improved.

That will be your spark plugs, Jake... Completely black and misfiring on two of them.

My 120 has seen a massive decrease lately. 450 miles is what I usually get, last week I got 270 from the same driving.
Im putting this down to the possible hgf I may have.
