egr valve - That old chestnut

OK so my zr nail has 2 problems, the lumpy running and the terrible oil leak.
the lumpy running is due to the EGR valve orifice. Code P1402
can anyone tell me how to sort for as little money as possible. then i will tackle the oil leak on the cooler pipes. to be honest, i hate this car as passionately as i love my 180 zs.

can you help me peeps?

Not sure if you can cheaper but there ya go.
I hear tale of post 2003 cars throwing up warning lights due to a Change in engine management if they're removed.
Also if you have a water cooled egr warmup times my be longer due to no coolant passing near hot exhaust. But I imagine the people without egr cooling manage just fine.

Get a coke can, cut a blank out and insert it between the EGR and the exhaust pipe (or engine if you want to do it that way) - Cheapest option anyway

Bear in mind there *MAY* be legal and MOT ramifications for removing the EGR, this way at least it is still visually there...

as said, - either just fit a thin plate on the exhaust manifold side and plug it all up together, or remove the lot and join the watercooler pipework toegther to complete the circuit.
you'd need to two blanks, one for the inlet 'chargpipe' and one for the exhaust manifold.

if it a Mk2, then you can get it remapped to remove the code from showing up as an issue.

Right now, the EGR is not an issue for MOT's - and on the L-series only opens at constant throttle when no idling anyways, so it is not exactly doing a huge amount.

warm-up time is a touch longer - but it saves the oily crap building up in the inlet manifold as a result!

Thats why I said *MAY* because I was told the V6 Diesel will have issues passing the MOT without an EGR, but it is blanked off (not by me) and seems to be fine so far...

On a side note, I removed the EGR the other day to replace a filter underneath it and there was 2cm (no joke) of carbon buildup on the blank... Shows how dirty the engine can be! (Although I don't know how long it has been on there)

EGRs do nothing for the good of your engine, all that crap being recirculated back into the engine. I did the conversion on my TD5 Disco years ago, the valve was caked.
