Talking Your MG's Past and present...

just a thought of what peoples MG history has been and what was done.

Here is mine...

Started with a 1.4 ZR. Paid £1650 in 2010. All work done was cosmetic and engine was standard.

Sold this for £650 Summer 2012 to get a bigger car for work.

So I chose a rare ZS 1.8 VVC which I paid £1650

Had a lot of work done on this including new VVC head, Belts done, Pipercam, and more cosmetic work including tints, new cold air feed, Plastidipped aftermarket alloys, brake upgrade, HID's.

Sold this for £800 2 months ago as engine was poorly converted and head was about to go, also some nugget scratched full side of the car and needed new bumper.

So opted for a 180 and found this...

Paid £1250 with 67k Miles. nice bodywork but engine was poorly maintained as i found out 2 days after owning it. Engine seized.

Already had new 180 engine fitted with 68k Miles.
HID's Fitted.

Started off with a 1963 MG Midget, then swapped it for a 1965 Midget.

Had a family so 2 seaters went out the window.

The girls got married, left home and so MGB GT's were on the drive.

Had 3 of them, but the rust was a pain.

Getting older, decided against a replacement, after I found rot in the sills of the last one.

Saw a ZS on Ebay, Yellow Derv and thought it looked good with all the kit and would be the newest car I ever bought. Train ride up to London, waited outside the station and the garage guy turned up in the Yellow Monster, loved it.

Then kept on looking on Gumtree, Ebay and driving the wife mad, saying MGF/TF's were SOOOOO cheap. But thought they would be hard to get into, one came up for sale near us for a £1000, with a hard top. Went to look at it but it had gone, sitting there was a Typhoon, 160 TF, with a hardtop, but 3 x as much. But went for a test drive, mainly to see if we could get in it. They have such big doors, easy.

TF160

ZS Derv

Here's my MGs over the years.
My first MG was a Trophy Blue ZS180. I bought this new in December 2002. It was only one week old when the picture was taken.
Over the 2 years I had her, I did loads of breathing mods. Exhaust, enclosed intake, sports cat and a remap.
Ownership wasn't without its problems though.
The car suffered a HP PS pipe failure at 71, yes 71 miles. This sprayed PS fluid everywhere. The 180 was returned to the dealer, curtsey of the AA. The dealer fixed the pipe and steam cleaned the engine.
Well from that point on, the car was plagued with electronic gremlins. I think over the 2 years I had her, she went to the dealer 21 times. It was always a battle with them because I had played with her.
After 2 years and lots of pressure from the wife, I sold her on.
She's still on the road, I see her now and again.
Next there was a 7 year MG frer gap.
I February 2011 I bought an X Power Grey ZS180. This had already been treated to breathing mods so went well enough. I did make my own Sheddist clutch kit for it though. It was lovely to drive a ZS again, especially after a run of family friendly 4X4's
I then found I needed more space so replaced her with a Freelander, KV6 powered of course.

Then in February this year, my wife came home with a sorry looking VVC MGF.
Thus I've another MG and project to play with.

Had mostly Rovers rather than MG's, the ZS is the first I've owned outright and the MGB-K is a joint project with Dad and I...

My first MG was this ZR 120, got it brand new and had it for 5 years

Followed by my first 180, had this about 3 years till I mated it with a wall and a Range Rover.

Then came the Green 180, had this till a tiny bit over a year ago and sold it to my mate

An currently KevG's old ZS which I have had for over a year already

Oh go on then, had MGs since I passed my test, a bit of a dotted history:

ZS number 1, first car at 17.

Then a 75 V6 (a bit weird for a 19 year old).

Then back to MG with a 1.4 ZR.

Missed the first ZS so got this:

And turned it into this:

Then a 180 came up for a bargain price so sold the 120:

Then I entered a dark period of my life with this BINI, my mate ended up buying my red 120 off the guy I sold it to, small world!

This is the ZS I currently have, I've nearly had this one 4 years. Mine is the one in the distance from when it was "mid transformation", the one nearest the camera is how it was when I bought it:

While I was working on the ZS last year I got myself a clio, awesome fun.

And how she stands today with almost 140k and double the power she left the factory with all those 12 years ago.

When I have the time -I'll put some pics up.

TF135 with Miltek quad exhaust.

ZS Mk2 180 saloon in black that I put the union jack roof on. Joined this excellent forum. Sold to a local lad but ended up coming back to the forum with Sheppeyduo.
ZS Mk1 180 in black. Black straights. Great car. Sold to forum member Bigfoot217.
ZS Mk2 180 Hatch in Rio Red. Low mileage alcantara. Sold via PH to a guy in Scotland.
ZS Mk2 Diesel in Ignition blue. Put full leather and other mods and was RRd at 151bhp. Sold to Clive on the forum.
ZS Mk1 180 Hatch "Red". Really played with this one. Sadly broken up due to corrosion.
ZS Mk2 180 Saloon in Silver. Black alloys and Red alcantara plus other bits that Matt now has. RRd at 185.

(Part owned a ZS180 that got smashed up at the 'Ring by another part owner before I'd driven it).

Now in a Ford Fiesta 1.0l 3 cylinder turbo Zetec S. And I'm loving it.

My ZS is my one and only MG, this is the longest I have ever owned a car, over 9 years, that says it all I reckon.

The year I bought it

As it is today.

Nearly forgot the wife's MGF Wedgewood SE
