Keep the texts !!

Reply to the summons stating that the car was sold on (day / date / time) to (whoever you sold it to) and mention that you have texts confirming that information, and can call friends and family to court to give evidence if necessary to confirm that as the truth. State that you complied with the law in relation to informing the dvla of the change and the letter was sent to them on (date).

The trouble you now have is that the guy who was driving knows what's coming and will be "evasive" shall we say.

You'll be fine.

As i said, I will go to court with you should it be necessary. I know you sold it, and definitely didnt have it last weekend, so you should be fine.

As per my PM mate, send a letter back with the NIP giving all the details you have of the person you sold it to and the person he sold it to. If the car is insured in someone elses name (especially if it is in the name of the person you have mentioned) then you should be ok.
