just look up your local trade paint supplier, are you painting in poly base & 2-pack clear coat or water based?

you will need 2-pack primers over filler etc.

if you man knows how to paint then he'll know all this, what to use and where to get it from.

My mate has not been too helpful with letting me know what is needed but can't complain as he is doing it for free.

Will be doing front bumper and bonnet first. Got some damage to passenger door and have got to replace drivers door due to rust. Colour is platinum silver. Wanting to spray alloys aswell but not sure what colour to go for yet. Had a quote of about £100 from a place in Peterborough. Thanks for the offer of help

you may need to blend it into the other panels, you would often do a bonnet and both wing tips, if your doing the door also you may end up doing wing tip, bonnet, wing, fr door & blend into rear door.

1ltr of poly base to flash over, 1ltr 2pack max mayer or lechler laquar, 1 litre hardener, 1or 2 litre thinners, in this heat you prob won't need extra rapid, but if weather turns you could.
gun clean or cheap thinners.
various grits, 2 pack filler primer and filler if needed.

could easily cost 200quid for the paints, primers, fillers etc.

alloys may look good in gunmetal grey, prob with black is it can make your tyres look brown. 20quid plus the vat for 1/2 ltr poly base in the colour. Could matt laquar, very in at the mo on gunmetal alloys.

Seems like I might end up doing half the car
Gunmetal sounds good. Think gloss finish would be wrong so will prob do matt.
Will be spraying outside as workshop is occupied by my brothers mini (8 years and still not finished)

not ideal if you have neighbours.

take the bonnet off and spray upright.

it may not be much more for a bodyshop to do it.

id pay the extra take it to the bodyshop, silver is a nightmare to match in, and yet to see a decent outdoor spray job, end up with all sorts in it and you need to do a lot of buffing to get any sort of finnish to it.

Been quoted around £500 just for the bodywork by local sprayer. Really need to keep cost down as still got repair bill to pay after clutch and rad problems.
Thanks for the advice guys
