I was working on the airbags for the 75 and saw the ZT, then went to look at them in the showroom and preferred the ZS. However it was a few years later that I was able to buy one when my girls no longer needed to be taxied around! My first driving experience was at Brands when they ran a few of them.

I still love your 180 Alan. I NEED A SET OF ADDENDUMS!!!

I fell for the ZS at launch, I think I saw a pic of Kelvin's blue (Y-reg) car somewhere online. My ZS was the best drivers car I've owned and still compares very favourably to a lot more expensive stuff I have roadtested.

I would never have sold my Zed had we not had our daughter and wanted something easier for my wife to load Lily into. Still at least I've got the 45 to convert to ZS spec!

I did a swap deal with a lad for my old scooby that had a blown up engine (3k to replace the engine) so the scooby was techically worthless to me.

97 scooby with 130k miles on it (had a mere 56k miles when i bought it)
53 plate ZS 180 with around 50k on it.

I only got the ZS as a means of releasing funds from my old scooby project, it was not till i actually swapped keys/log books and drove the car away did i think "**** me this thing has a great chassis" LOL!

If the recession had of not arrived and lost me 25k through my business, i would have simply replaced the scoobys engine (again! it would have been its 4th rebuild while i owned it )

First saw the ZS at Silverstone when me and the missus went to see Touring cars.

Not sure what year, but i don't think they were actually racing that round !!
Fell in love with them, never thought i would actually own one.

Got the 120 in Dec 2010, hopefully get a 180 in the next few weeks

My ZS was the result of me wanting more power!, I had a 2002 Ford Focus 2.0 Ghia that I done an ST replica on, and I was wanting more power from it without spending stupid amounts of cash!!, so a friend of the family is a car salesman at the time he was working for our local MGRover dealer and handed me the 2004 model range brochure, have a look he said we are expecting a few of the newer models next week, so I popped down later on next week and seen a Grey ZS180 that was just literally of the transporter, the family friend spotted me looking at the car asked if I wanted a test drive, he said "pop in on Friday and we will had it valeted", (I did a lot of researching and comparing to my current car at the time, didn't really know about MGRovers at the time), so I did what he asked, but when I arrived at the dealer another guy was pondering whether to buy the car, he had a ZT with a blueflame exhaust on it, which thought was a bit silly trading down to car with the same engine yet smaller!! Anyway I went out in the ZS and if I could smile from ear to ear I was, so a verbal deal was done while driving, after the test drive this other guy took a shot, I said to him "Be careful as that is mine now......!" His face was a picture as I said that to him, as I think he was wanting the car!!
1 week later the the car was mine although I gained an instant 40bhp increase by trading my Focus, I never really got the power I really wanted, but now 7 years later I still have it and still love driving it although filling it with petrol is really painful!

I fell in love with the new zed range when this picture was leaked on the net in mid/late 2000 when they were simply known as X10,X20,X30. Still remember Top Gear being given special access to the Zeds and giving them a very good review....
As soon as I heard they were going racing in the BTCC, I knew one day I would have one. Always wanted a 180, but the 120 has served me very well in 5 years. At least it looks like a 180 now

March 2011

Any excuse for some pics

Hmmmmm... Well I'd not been a fan of the ZS at all..... as a mk2 Golf 16v GTi owner at the time of the launch they went on my radar at all lol I thought they just looked like tarted up 45's!!

It was in 2007, when my scirocco Mk2 started to feel the pressure of commuting from manchester to sunderland that i decided to look for a DERV, being a true VW fan, they're was no way i was going to wast my hard earned HSBC loan on a mk4 "FAT SLOW" golf. I only had 6k to spend, so i was looking at pretty high mileage for a recent model anywhoo's.

I looked at alsorts and in the end i came to the conclusion that I'd have a Seat Leon 20vturbo, or a Focus ST 170. neither were DERVs! lol

But I was still not convinced, on a rainy saturday my brother and i chanced upon the ZS a 54 plate mk2 "Derv" in xpower Grey. I phone my mate andy...... and he Stated that he'd been suggesting one of these all along.... must have missed that! lol

I went for a test drive, all in 30 zones and though eye, its ok..... and it was 5499.00 so well within budget!

Two days later I picked him up.... Monty - My car! named in memory of my Montego back in the day.

Decided to visit my olds for the afternoon and get to know my motor, Snake wass a calling! so drove from manchester to bakewell along the snakes pass......never looked back after that ride!
