Air Con question

I have a question about air con. When i switch on the air con the radiator fan comes on, however, it comes on fast and gets faster, runs at a hell of a speed all the time when the air con is on, then when i switch the engine off and take the keys out the fan still runs for about 15mins. Is this normal? I've never noticed it before...
