Dave - Use fishing gut on the back one. It's got no 'pins' holding it on and i'm told it works.

meat-and-gravy - for the front one i just took my time and slowly levered it off. It was well stuck and did take a while to do... but i got it eventually. I took the plastic bit of the grill off first though.

I've got a Mk1 hatch and the rear MG badge definately has two locating pins also holding it on. Think they're more for lining it up though. Best way to remove, i found, was to use dental floss to cut through the sticky tape holding it on.
If your thinking of replacing the rear badge with a non OE one, bear in mind that the new one wont fit flush without the curved plastic surround.

I've replaced my rear badge and was in much the same frame of mine but heat it up enough with a hair dryer it i was able to pull it off with my fingers.

Well easy. Just make sure you line up the new one correctly.

the rear badge is funny on the mk1, it fits into the top curve of the boot lid, so i would imagine aftermaket badges wouldnt fit?
