All part of the learning curve, easy to damage the rad, as you say, get it repaired and move on.

I think the first thing is to put the tools down and get someone else to do it! It doesn't take much for the radiator to get damaged when working in that confined space. My BMC has been there for some 5 years with no ill effects Be careful in the future, if in doubt, do nowt!

180 rads are like hens teeth, a re-core will be your best bet if stuck.
