If you still have the standard parts, why dont you sell the mods and keep the ZS tucked away for the future?

Im sure there will be a time when 180's in good condition will earn you way more than £2300

I don't think there will ever be this "classic" status for the ZS.

XR3i - SRi - GTe - GTi - RS Turbo - are all iconic cars that started off the hot hatch and were all fast versions of what were accepted as brand/market area leaders - like the Escort, Astra and Golf

I doubt very much that the ZS180 will ever be held in such regard being likened to the Rover 45 which was hardly at the top of it's peer group. We love them though .....

If you don't have the standard bits - take them in trade for the bits you've got - you'd end up with a standard car - and we'd all benefit.

Have to disagree.............xr3i mmmmmmmm d**k heads car. RS Turbo, brainless car.......all the others, just joyriders specials. I never liked them when they were new, and still hate them now.........
I agree the Rover 45 = grandads car, but the zs had that magic factor...An MG badge, and we are all so snobby arent we............, plus no one ever made a TY 45!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !

I paid £100 for my first mini - £40 for the second - seen the price of minis recently?
I paid £325 for my maestro and paid less for the others I've had - seen the price of a maestro recently? Even a base model fetches twice that.

Very true, the zeds will be regarded as classics at some point in the future.

That is part of the point, I could have something far less reliable and partial.

I'm sure you will recoup the monies back from breaking it due to the parts you have fitted but you may be left with a few due to high costs. People will want all for next to nothing these days.
These are things I need to consider if I break it, all those people looking for a bargain.

I agree with Dan the ZS will never be a classic sorry to say.

I've had a "brainless car" & "d**khead's" car or 2 in my time, and I find myself trying to recreate the feeling from driving them. The car I most want is a Fiesta RST, I had one 5 years ago. £300 saw 189bhp it handled, it stopped, and you could use every bit of it. So much fun, and these characteristic made these, and so many of the cars of this era iconic!

As good as the ZS is, it doesn't have instant power, and I find myself being very cautious with it. I do like it a lot don't get me wrong, it is not bags of fun though.

I've had some interest in the car, still not sure what to though.

It's not just the money for the bits though. There's lot of time and effort involved in fitting that lot and swapping them out again, which isn't the labour of love that fitting them is.

I know where you are coming from Andy, been there myself and miss previous cars from different eras. Before I bought the ZS I was after a Vauxhall Firenza, but could not find one anywhere, was considering an HS Chevette but too costly and again rare. So I went for the ZS as a new car at the time. I was always a Vauxhall nut.

As for classic status, I have to disagree to those that say no it won't as I think it will. Like James has said about Mini's it hasn't taken long for them to shoot up in price even for a basket case. Cars once seen as mundane and average can now fetch silly money such as mk4 and 5 Cortinas etc.
