Does this confirm the timing is out?

Spent two hours this morning getting everything off so I could see the crank pulley etc.

The cam pulleys seem lined up ok, but the crank pulley seems a few teeth out to me.

Can someone confirm that the mark on the crank pulley should line up with the notch in oil pump? I can see where there's been tipex put on to show the marks, but they don't line up.







If it's out, I suppose it's just a case of removing the timing, turning the crank pulley and refitting?

if you want to check the timing that way you need to lock the engine, theres a hole by the gearbox which you can slide a drill bit in to lock the engine, do this then check the cam pullys

You need to line it up from the crank 1st ( that's miles out) then you will have to check the top pulleys both sides! Don't just check the small belt ends.
If I was you I would get a Haynes manuel if you haven't done timing before on the kv6

I've adjusted the timing.

I got the cam pulleys all lined up as in the pictures, marked the position on the big timing belt and on the casing. Took the belt off, moved the crank pulley 2 teeth, and re-applied the belt in exactly the same position as it was when it came off.

Essentially, the I've adjusted the crank pulley by two teeth, but not moved anything else.

I've turned it over by hand and everything is moving ok.

Got a few more bits to re-fit, and hopefully that'll fix it. Fingers crossed.

Looking at that the cams were 30° advanced!! I'm surprised it even ran let alone not damage the valves!!
