Thanks Pete,

Tony Law won't do them any more and H&S want £1400 for a set of manis and a cat... (Compaired to £800 odd from Janspeed)... I wonder if they are worth that much more than Janspeeds?

Anyway back to the car, Yesterday on the way home there was a clunk from under the car, I thought nothing of it till a few miles up the road when I lost the ability to change gear... Or rather change effectively, the gears were there but I had to almost push the stick into the respective bumper to select them.

A quick look under the car and I could see the issue:

Turns out that this box has had a few threads stripped from some bolt holds, some of them have been repaired with a size smaller hexicoil (or something) but the steady bar mount had not been.

On further investigation I realised that its just the first half that was stripped and the std bolt was only just biting (had a spare bolt).

I couldn't find another specialist washer needed for the retaining bolt to hold the bush in place, so I have got three various sized washers and built up the "dish" that way, then used a longer bolt to bolt the steady bar back into place. Hopefully that will hold till I find a spare correct washer (this is my every day car as well remember!)

Gears have been restored, but now its making my question the gearbox itself... I think its fine, but when you have two or three smaller issues with something you do question the box as a whole!

Also noticed that the lower ball joints need replacing (I did notice when changine the box but it got to late and I didn't have them) the new ones have turned up now... so I will do them as soon as possible. - Does anyone know how easy it is to change them?

I seem to recall that the H&S manifolds cost more than Janspeed, but £1400 is a bit stiff, I'd be wanting some big gains for that kind of money.

The lower ball joints aren't bad to do, easier if you have access to a press to get the old out and the new ones in, so essentially wheel and disc off, split the lower and upper ball joint and remove the whole upright off the car, when I did mine I heated the lower joint so it knocked out really easily, and like wise when I fitted the new ones

Just thought I would update...

So things have been slow at the moment, for two reasons, I have purchased a CDTi ZTT for the daily commute (80 mile round trip) and ended up spending money fixing that. But also because I had some issues with a well known spares provider who "lost in the post" some Mk2 headlights I purchased (Two sets, and over two months before finally refunding me).

Anyway to cheer myself up I decided to change the seatbelts (thanks to Nigel ) as per:

And also picked up a rear strut brace for almost no money so will fit that over the weekend (Pictures to follow).

I knwo its not going to be to everyones taste and the red belts in a green car does feel BRM esk, but its not the same red and the car WILL change colour soon lol

I suppose I should update this thread

The GoodWood ZS is still on the road, but has had no end of problems from the rear shunt, from leaking seals, to the new bootlid not opening or closing correctly.

So, since I have been offered a better base to start from, this car is being taken off the road within the next few weeks and stripped down. I will keep some bits myself in our unit and some bits have already been spoken for. But it all depends what I need to do to get the "new" ZS on the road again (More on that in a new thread, once its on my drive).
