Engine rebuild Red mk2 180

Hi,
So i bought my new 180 after owning an XPG VVC conversion. I wanted something bigger and more enjoyable to run.

I bought the car off the MG forums. Was advised the Engien light was on due to Lambar sensor. Having owned the car for a day, I woke up to a completely seized engine. So I was given no choice but to source a new engine and get cracking with getting it up and running.

Engine was sourced. £200 60k full runner. Engine was picked up locally and my and my friend removed the old lump.

From these engines we pulled both apart and went for 1 completely perfect runner. So best parts from each was used.

Engine went in with no issues what so ever!

Once engine was in, we found an abundance of problems, Slave cylinder was knackered for some reason, Power steering pump was leaking and battery had given up! all things I was happy to live with!

Car is done. Running with a couple of niggly problems but gets me to and from work!

next on the agenda is:

remap to see what fuel consumption I may be able to salvage from a 180

touch up paintwork as gazebo used when changing engine scratched roof and bonnet!

rear door 180 kit replacing

rear bumper respraying (previous owner had bump)

Reset all ECU codes (Engine light still on)

Light tints

Full brake and disc change

Big and heavy when out of the engine bay aren't they! I miss the days of an engine swap with just a couple of leads and a couple of hoses to remove and ident!

monsters! the amount of room to get it in and out is insane! suprisingly it fit in like a glove getting new engine in, literally took 2 attempts with the crane to hoist back up and drop it onto mounts, couldnt believe it.

john180 will become famous soon enough
Great job - most people these days just seem to end up breaking them up with even less problems than you have had.

well done

thanks! i was at a complete loss and couldnt afford another car, literally had £300 left so it meant get the car repaired for less than £300 OR get a shockingly bad car for that price and sell for parts....

MG won!

so 1 year on and car is still running! got small leak on rocker covers but fitted new clutch kit 2 weeks ago and its still going strong. done 20K miles in a year as its on 79k now. just goes to show, give an MG a bit of love and TLC regularly and they do repay you in fun and enjoyment!

That's nuts, did the previous owner have any idea why the engine seized ?
