I just replaced my VIS motor with a recondition unit from MaxxedRoss, and my rattle has disappeared - so mine must have gone. However, I didnt have any serious performance hits because of it (I dont think anyway!) Ill be taking my old one apart soon so I will know for sure then.

Have a listen to the engine with the bonnet up, if theres a rattle try and locate it. The VIS motors are at the side of the plenum. Im not sure VIS rattle would give you total power loss though??
