It amazes me that people are still amazed when they see these high milers
Think about it, any car with high mileage like that is going to spend most of its life on the motorway, clocking up said miles. The motorway is infact where the car is going to be doing as little work as possible compared to almost all other road conditions. The strain on the mechanical components is going to be very low compared to say, blatting it round back roads etc.
Also, anything looked after, lasts for ages...we all know that.
If that was 157k in track miles, then I'd be impressed
Oh, and 145k here ;D

I suppose we are surprised because we live on a fairly small island, so it's quite hard to get proper sky high mileage without really trying. In the likes of Australia or America where you could do in one trip what our cars do in a year fairly easily.

Ah but that's not on it's original engine block any more, it only managed something like 1.5 million miles on that

True, some say that you need just around 10 bhp per ton in order to sustain legal motorway speed once you get there... Any car could manage that and eat that many miles without breaking a sweat.
On the other hand, the real challenge for the engine is when they test it on the table by leaving it on full throttle for two weeks! Especially turbocharged one, glowing red hot all the time...

Mine has just hit 71000 miles.
We has a customer in work who managed to run the clock on his A3 2.0 TDI back to zero and we gave him a 50% discount on a brand new version of the same car to say thank you for his loyalty to our garage . Seems a shame we sent the car to the auction, should have put it in the showroom IMO

I agree that a constant mileage is better. Thats why minicabs, are shagged. But a well maintained repmobile is stilll a good buy. I still remember when my Cavalier went round to "0000". Looked really wierd for the next few months.......
My ZED on 71K at the mo, and looking at all the paperwork, everyone has been a loving mile. SO the YELLOW beast will be around for some time (sorry Dan!)

My ZS is over 90k, the Disco was over 150k and the old Xsara that was passed down to my girls was I think over 171k when that was 'collected'. If looked after they are all fine. Years ago when I was racing Audi's and carrying out R&D on the them we found that engines covered 100k were ideal test beds and just run-in. After a few new rebuilds we concluded they didn't like new shells and sought +100k ones to rebuild with the current bottom end.
