Heater control valve

Apparently mines leaking. What does this part do and is it likely to go after 9 years? Will it cause any damage if I leave it?

Blade9274 is on a distinguished road
Well when mine went on my Fiesta Mk5 Zetec-S, it made you unable to get warm air through the heater on any setting.
Also caused my temperture gauge to go into the Red.

Mine went a couple of years ago - was leaking a fine jet / mist of water. Got a new one (truly stoopid price, for what it is - ?32!!!)
Did look at repairing, which I think is feasible if you can get some O rings the correct size. Problem would be sealing it back together.

Potential problem is if it goes altogether you could quickly lose your coolant.

Guess its possible if you try another heat setting that it won't leak - AlanF used to leave his on full iirc for that reason.

Should've said - its on bulkhead just below ecu (on K series at least)

mine went on my 120 in the first year of ownership when it was new 53 reg Zippy is nearly right i used to leave it just in to the red sector and it didnt leak.

But Mattie if you dont stop it leaking you will have HGF again due to coolant loss

Best get that sorted then. Could this be linked to a noise I get on fan settings 1 and 2? Kind of like a loud rumbling?

Valve wouldn't affect that I don't think - sounds like your blower is on way out or something stuck in it. Try dropping it out (couple of screws) and feel how it rotates - should be free and smooth. If not it could be worth trying a spray of WD40 or similar between fan and motor. Can sometimes restore smooth running.
