Hpi - cat d

As there is NO MK2 within a 100 return journey from Sheffield, if I'm going to invest the time cost of a journet I'd want to ensure the car has NO hidden history .........
My question ......What does the HPI check show ..... or put it another way, what is the cheapest check for prior insurance write off such as CAT D, outstanding loan etc

I would have thought any outstanding loans and hpi would have been settled a long time back but I have no experience in this area.
Write offs will be marked as such on the front of the log book.
Get the latest mot number from the seller and you get access to mot history on .gov
