I don't know about connecting the engine loom to the car loom but there are only a few wires to connect.

IIRC the different models have different looms but the sensors are the same.

Even if you don't eventually use it I still think it would be worth getting the loom when you get the engine.

And why the 620 sump?????

I have a montego 8V nasp sump on the rover vitesse (820 tubby) engine in my T16 maestro, the sump from the O series, the M series and the T series share the same bolt pattern APART from the 620, you'd need to drill new holes to fit it.
