My air con whines when its turned on as well, its pretty annoying. I was just aboout to post a thread asking about it...

The whine is only there when the air con is on. It's very noticeable. I drive with the blowers on most of the time anyway and there's no whine till I push the air con on. To me it sounds like it's coming from the passenger side.

When was the last time you had the A/C system checked?

Generally, 100gramms of R134a refrigerant gas is lost every 2 years via seals in the A/C system, even if it is being used.

Curiously mine has started doing this. TBH I think mine is in need of a service but I would be suprised if low gas is the cause of the whining?

I don't think it's low gas. Mines doing it and it's just been re-gassed
