Corrosion, mot advisories.

Hi guys thanks for letting me in. I'm looking for a decent 180. Looked at a mk2 this am and I've seen the same advisory on mot checks on other cars relating to corrrosion. lots of wetness and some rust behind the front wheels in the area of the chassis rail/ bulkhead. Any experience, is it a car killer? Distinct lack of protection under there been a while since I saw a rusty tank.

Mk2s will suffer underneath due to cutbacks etc (project drive). However not heard of any being killed off due to rust. If treated and coated it will be fine. Let's not forget these were everyday road cars and have lasted well, getting an immaculate one will cost you a little. Good luck with your viewing!

If the rust gets picked up on an MOT it is normally quite easy to get it sorted. Leave it a year and it starts to become a problem.

As it is underneath it only needs to be functional, not pretty.

Hi and welcome. Yep - common issue but with all cars either some additional protection before the issue appears, or some proper remedial action and you're good to go.
