On another note, my step Dad said to take the car back to the garage where the MOT was done as they should of picked up the fact of the ball joint being worn. I didn't think there would be any way of telling if the metal itself was weak (or hairline crack).
Can I do this or would it just be a case of 'It was fine when we checked it' app' 3 months ago!!

Given that they can only check what they can see, I don't think the garage could be held responsible for missing any thing, if you look at the ball joint in its assembled state there is not much visible apart from the rubber boot, the nut, and the threaded end of the joint, so if the boot wasn't torn and the joint had no play then it would be a mot pass

Wow not good. Glad you managed to save it though, as said could have been a whole lot worse!

This obviously comes down to the Honda design/suspension. Very common on older Honda's. Happened to my mates brother in his Civic. Used to be fairly common on Rover 800's - again, the Honda Legend suspension design.

It is obviously a possibility on 45's and ZS's aswell, as this is the second one this year that I have known of fail, the other one being a 45 diesel.

True, most MOTs are a joke these days anyway.

Luckily ZRed caught something very similar on my Defender before it had the chance to do the same thing. The joint was in some state so I dunno how mine passed an MOT! Difference with a Defender is that sort of fail at speed might roll you over
