I wouldn't as that seems to suit a diesel spec engine, I use 5w40 synta from VAG in mine.

As an addition it may well be okay for everyday use if high mileage, why not check with Opie Oils?

at 142k I'd rather not spend over £30 a quid a time for an oil change as I try and do it every 6 month anyway

It's also used daily

The correct oil is 10W40 semi syntetic as in Steves post and is what I have been using - just make sure you pick up the 4L bottle as the 5L is £19.99.
