ZR 160 gearbox

My 120 gearbox jumps out of reverse rather quickly and I am getting thrust bearing whine when things get hot, so the box has to come out, I have a chance of a cheapish but good ZR 160 box, would this make much difference to the drive ie different ratios or any other issues?

it will make it much more lively on acceleration, and revvy throughout all the gears. I love close ratio boxes but the std 1.8 whilst a revvy engine, produces its power lower down the rev band than a vvc, that wouldn';t put me off, but might a lot of people.
